WHAT COUNSELORS DO:

Responsive Services
Individual Planning
Responsive Services/Community Resources
Community and Cultural Outreach
School counselors work collaboratively with students, families, school administration and community members to implement a preventive, school counseling program, which includes early warning systems for identifying students who may be engaging in harmful or risky behaviors, as well as developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive interventions and supports addressing those behaviors and promoting student resilience and success.
Collaborative Classroom Instruction
Counselors provide direct instruction, team teaching, parent workshops, and learning activities which promote: Academic and learning development, life and career development, multicultural and global citizenship development and social/emotional development. The selection of instructional topics is based on the specific requirements, priorities, and needs of the school.
Plan For College and Career Readiness
Comprehensive Counseling Model
School counselors recognize that each student possesses unique interests, abilities and goals, which will lead to various future life and career opportunities. Collaborating with students, families, educational staff and the community, the school counselor works to ensure all students develop an academic and career plan reflecting their interests, abilities and goals and including rigorous, relevant coursework and experiences appropriate for the student.
Data Driven Counseling
Counselors promote accountability, social justice, and systemic change through a comprehensive College and Career Readiness School Counseling Program. This program offers strategies for school staff to enhance their effectiveness in schools. Using data-driven approaches, counselors and stakeholders identify and implement necessary supports, bridging equity gaps and improving college and career readiness for all students.
